NEWCASTLE United star Shola Ameobi has been banned from driving for 28 days for doing 61mph in a 40mph zone.
The England Under-21 striker was fined £500 and ordered to pay £43 costs when he admitted speeding and failing to produce his driving licence.
The case ended yesterday after taking up four court hearings. It began in April, when police clocked Ameobi at 61mph in a 40mph zone in his Range Rover Vogue on the Felling bypass, in Gateshead, at 12.20pm.
He was stopped and given forms ordering him to produce his documents within seven days. Ameobi failed to do so and, on July 30, police issued a summons alleging speeding, failing to produce documents and no insurance.
On September 10, Gateshead magistrates found him guilty in his absence and fined him £1,000, with six points on his licence. He already had three points.
But solicitor Brian Hegarty claimed Ameobi had insurance at the time, and the court set the convictions aside after he applied to re-open the case.
The no insurance charge was withdrawn after his documents were produced.
