CHILDREN are being given the chance to discover what it is like to be mayor for a day.
Pupils from schools in Durham City have been invited to enter a competition, either writing a short story, or drawing a picture, describing what they would do, or change, if they were mayor.
The competition has been organised by Durham Children and Young People's Council for Local Democracy Week.
Entries will be exhibited in County Hall during Local Democracy Week, starting on Monday. Judging will be on Wednesday.
The winners will spend Sunday, November 21, with the mayor as she carries out her duties, ending with the official switching on of the city's Christmas lights with Coronation Street's Keith Duffy.
