THE clocks were turned back 60 years at the weekend to a very different era, a time of camaraderie, excitement and fear.
For the eighth successive year, the Pickering-based North York Moors Railway brought the dark years of the 1940s to life with their nostalgic Wartime Weekend.
Hundreds of people wore uniforms and clothes of the period for a recreation of the era.
And re-enactment societies used the vehicles and equipment of the time as events took place along the steam railway line between Grosmont and Pickering.
To provide a true taste of the times, a restaurant was set up in Pickering's Memorial Hall and there was also dancing to the sounds of a big band.
