A 22-year-old man died from suspected hypothermia after fleeing into remote woodland when a stolen car he was in crashed, police said today.
Danny McLeod, who was wearing a T-shirt and jeans, was discovered in a ravine by a dogwalker in remote woods at Liverton, Cleveland. A Cleveland Police spokesman said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
Mr McLeod, from Loftus, Cleveland, was discovered on Sunday, two days after the crash.
Detective Colin Galloway, of Cleveland Police, said: ''It would appear the man may have been with two friends in a car that crashed on Friday. ''All three made off and it seems Danny, on his own, ran into the woods.
''The body, dressed in T-shirt and jeans, was found face down in undergrowth in a steep ravine.
''There were no apparent injuries on the body.''
Because of the dense terrain, a team from Cleveland search and rescue were called to bring the body out of the woods.
The spokesman said the car involved in Friday afternoon's crash at nearby Liverton Mines had been reported stolen. Two men are in custody in connection with the matter.
