ABOUT two dozen pro-hunting supporters staged a peaceful protest outside a dinner being hosted by Government chief whip Hilary Armstrong at the weekend.
Ms Armstrong, who is the representative for North-West Durham, was holding a constituency dinner at the Pavilion Restaurant in Iveston, near Consett, when the protestors arrived.
The guest of honour was Health Secretary John Reid.
A spokesman for Durham Police said last night: "MP Hilary Armstrong, together with John Reid and Labour party supporters and members of the business community, were attending a constituency Labour party dinner.
"At that time, about 25 pro-hunt protestors conducted a peaceful protest by displaying placards and blowing whistles, generally making their presence felt.
"At 8.15pm, the protestors left the area of their own accord. There were no arrests and no disruption to local residents."
