A kind-hearted teenager handed over the money she raised from the Great North Run to help young people in one of the poorest districts in India.
Keedy Noble, 14, spends some of her spare time helping her parents, Tony and Anne Noble, to run Craft Works, a workshop scheme for handicapped people in Barnard Castle. She gave the £357 she raised to Christian Aid yesterday to help set up a similar craft workshop in Hyderabad, in India, which will provide employment and an income for deprived youngsters.
Keedy, a pupil at Barnard Castle School, was supported by others in the group and members of Green Explorers, a linked organisation which does similar work.
Members chipped in sums of sponsorship money at their weekly meetings over a two-month period and other friends also added to the fund.
Susan Barnes, the Teesdale representative of Christian Aid, who received the money, said, "We are really grateful to Keedy and all her friends, as the money will be put to good use.
"It will go to a new workshop which will teach skills to deprived people, who will then be helped to sell their products and create an income for themselves.
"It will give a great boost to their lives.
