SINGER Alvin Stardust has recruited dozens of young performers to star in his latest show.
Stardust, best known for his 1970s hits My Coo-Ca-Choo and Jealous Mind, visited north Durham to meet members of the recently-reformed Consett Theatre Workshop Juniors.
The youngsters will act as backing singers when Stardust performs his 'Rockin' around the Christmas Tree' show at the Empire Theatre, in Consett, on November 17.
Margaret Darroch, who re-formed the junior workshop earlier this year, said: "The kids are really looking forward to performing with him, it will be a real treat."
Mrs Darroch and the workshop are also working on a production of the musical Stepping Out, in partnership with the Jane Robson School of Dance, which will be performed at the Empire Theatre in spring.
Stardust, who starred in The Phantom Of The P'opera, at Billingham Forum, Teesside, last week. said: "The best part for us is working with the kids, as they really enjoy being involved."
Tickets for the show are £14, or £12 for concessions, and are available on (01207) 218171.
