A BOWLER hat and an old-fashioned trouser press are among attic treasures to be auctioned off to raise money for a community centre.
They have been donated by users of the Neville Community Centre, Newton Aycliffe, to raise funds for improved facilities.
The centre, which was taken over and renovated by the Friends of the Senior Citizens a year ago, has been enjoying a new lease of life but it is still in need of a replacement floor and a disabled toilet. Peter Beaty, of the centre, said it would be the third auction, the other two had raised more than £1,500.
The bowler hat was given, still in its original box, with a price on it of 1s 6d, or 7p in today's money.
Mr Beaty said: "It is still brand new and has never been worn. We have had a lot of kind donations including a sideboard, easy chairs, three- piece suite, wardrobes, televisions and radios.
"We need the money badly for the renovations. We have already spent a fortune on it but it needs a new floor, a disabled toilet, a new fence and the curtains all need cleaning and fire proofing. It is money well spent because it is used seven days a week."
Donations for the auction, on Saturday, October 30, are still wanted and can be collected by calling Mr Beaty on (01325) 313924.
Viewing starts at noon with the event starting at 1pm.
