A FATHERS 4 JUSTICE campaigner appeared in court yesterday charged with assault and criminal damage.
Paul Watson, who contested the recent Hartlepool by-election, is alleged to have thrown purple powder over fellow candidate Jody Dunn at the count.
The 36-year-old, from Ashwood Grange, Thornley, County Durham, has been charged with causing assault and £135 worth of damage to a blouse and jacket belonging to Ms Dunn.
He appeared at Hartlepool Magistrates' Court and spoke only to confirm his name and address.
He was supported by members of the group, who were outside the court dressed in superhero outfits.
No pleas were entered and the case was adjourned until November 17.
