A CAMPAIGNER who expressed fears for the future of a theatre is optimistic it will re-open.
The Grade II*-listed Royal Hall, in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, has been closed for months after a large section of ceiling in the ageing building crashed to the floor. Earlier, the upper circle had been shut amid fears for the safety of the public.
Royal Hall Restoration Trust chairwoman Lilian Mina said she had been gloomy about restoration progress earlier this year. She said that the situation had since improved dramatically.
Funding of £6m is available from the Heritage Lottery Fund and £2m is available from Harrogate Borough Council, and a study is under way to discover what the money should be spent on.
