PLANS to redevelop a derelict site in Darlington have been praised by the chairman of the town's planning committee.
Councillors yesterday approved an application from Persimmon Homes to built 31 houses and 58 apartments on a 1.1 hectare of land in Neasham Road, which was occupied by the former Tinsley Works.
Committee chairman Councillor Frank Robson said the development would be an enhancement to the Bank Top ward.
"Anybody who knows that site will be pleased that at last something has been done," he said.
"It has been a bit of an eyesore for far too long and this will get it back into use."
The scheme was approved subject to 17 conditions, including improved car parking, landscaping of the site and tree planting.
