VISITORS to Brancepeth Castle will be in for some spooky surprises this Halloween.
The castle is planning a series of events, including music, dance, stories and drama, hosted by Thor Ewing, who will recall his encounter with Brancepeth Castle's ghost.
There will be a ghostly quality to the Northumbrian folk group, Magpiet with Cath Oss and Phil Tyler, Lachrymae and Helen Barber.
Storyteller Martin Peacock will recount some ghastly tales, while the drama will be provided by the Durham Shakespeare players, who will perform supernatural scenes from The Merry Wives of Windsor, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth.
Bishop's Bedlam will perform a border dance, and perhaps more exotic but equally scary, Gypsies of the Heart will perform the Zar, a Northern Arabic exorcism dance.
The Halloween extravaganza takes place in the ballroom at 7.30pm on Sunday, October 31. Tickets cost £8 and £6 and can be booked on 0191-378 2988.
