A GROUP of youngsters have produced a poem tree which provides an impressive entrance to their school.
The 11 to 13-year-olds from Blakeston School, Norton, have spent four weeks working on the project.
Firstly, they built the tree out of papier mach and then spent time studying poems from various generations to copy out and hang on the tree before creating their own poems.
The creation was the idea of Des Boston, a teaching assistant attached to the school's English department.
He said: "The kids have loved taking part in the project and the tree itself has caused a bit of a stir with people who visit the school. It has received many comments and all of them good.
"The poems the children wrote were very imaginative and there were ones about the prime minister and famine amongst other things. In fact, I think they enjoyed writing and dreaming up the poems more than actually making the tree."
The tree was made to coincide with National Poetry Day.
