FIRE engines were taken over by students yesterday in order to clean cars for cash.
Students at Stockton Riverside College got to grips with fire appliances to wash cars of passing motorists.
The youngsters hope to raise £1,500 to complete a community course to help Cleveland Fire Brigade teach the public about safety.
The course has been organised by The Prince's Trust and students have been working with firefighters as part of a 12-week project.
Karen Duncan, Prince's Trust co-ordinator for Cleveland Fire Brigade, said: "We have nine young people on the course. During the programme, they are helping the brigade to promote fire safety and prevention within the community.
"Our students need to raise over £1,500 to complete their team challenge and community challenge, so funds raised through this car wash are very important."
