THEY are two of the region's most recognisable landmarks and were for sale at a snip yesterday.
Grey's Monument, in Newcastle, and Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, were adorned with £2.20 price tags.
The publicity stunt launched a six-figure marketing campaign for a new tariff on the Tyne and Wear Metro.
Nexus, which operates the light rail network, is introducing a flat-rate £2.20 return ticket after 9am on weekdays and all day on weekends and public holidays.
It aims to encourage more people in Tyneside and Wearside to use the Metro for shopping, day trips or nights out.
Nexus commercial director Andy Bairstow said: "Our aim is to significantly increase off-peak travel on the Metro system, including encouraging passengers who use alternative modes of transport to try it out.
"Our first step has been to both simplify and reduce fares on most journeys, which adds up to a considerable saving for our customers.
