A PROJECT has been launched that gives pupils and their teachers the chance to learn skills from professional musicians.
The Ignite project is an initiative between Creative Partnerships Tees Valley, a Government-funded creative learning programme, and The PRS Foundation, the UK's largest independent funder of new music.
The aim of the programme is to identify skilled musicians in the Tees Valley to work with music teachers in local schools.
The musicians and teachers would work together for a year to share ideas before leading music projects in schools.
The workshops involving the musicians and teachers will start in January, and the projects will begin in schools in September.
Mike McGrother, the project manager for Ignite and a member of the Wildcats of Kilkenny band, said: "This project is all about bringing musicians, teachers and young people together to share best practice and to unearth the talent that exists in the Tees Valley."
