Sarah Borwell, from Nunthorpe, reached the women's singles semi-finals at the ITF £25,000 event in Glasgow. This was her best performance in the UK this year and should boost her rankings points somewhat.
The last five months have been much interrupted by a series of injuries, but Borwell is now looking forward to four more tournaments before returning to the United States in November.
As a qualifier, the Durham and Cleveland number one defeated two higher ranked players - Selina Sfar, seeded two, of Tunisia, and Amanda Janes of Essex. But she came unstuck at the hands of another qualifier, Margit Ruutel of Estonia, losing 6-2 7-6.
The Teessider came from behind to knock out Sfar in round one. Her victim is ranked 127 in the world and is an experienced tournament competitor.
Next up was Amanda Janes, number four in Britain, but Borwell negotiated a tight tie-break in set one and then a more comfortable second.
In qualifying, she had seen off compatriots Danielle Brown and Holly Bagshaw and then stopped improving young player Claire Peterzan of Surrey.
Janes turned the tables on Borwell and partner Emily Webley-Smith of Avon in the doubles with Ukraine's Elena Tatarkova.
Daniel Kiernan, leading male player in Durham and Cleveland, continued his successful doubles career with David Sherwood of Yorkshire BY stopped fellow Britons Richard Bloomfield and Chris Lewis 6-4 6-4 in the final.
