A THEATRE group has used its experiences of performing in an abbey to provide inspiration for its latest play.
The Confession of Brother Wormwood is a murder mystery set among the monks of a Yorkshire monastery.
North Country Theatre artistic director Nobby Dimon said: "For the last eight years we have worked regularly with the National Trust at Fountains Abbey, so we had a lot of background knowledge to call on.
"We wanted to create something in our usual comedy ripping yarn style, but with a touch of whodunit. The new play should appeal to fans of Brother Cadfael, as well as Chaucer or Monty Python and the Holy Grail."
Actor Nick Wyatt, who has previously appeared in Heartbeat, will play the sinister abbot whose family secret is at the centre of the mystery.
The play will be performed in the Zetland Centre, Richmond, on Wednesday and Thursday next week. Tickets are available from Richmond Tourist Information, Castle Hill Books or by calling (01748) 825288. The group will tour the region until January.
