BUILDING work has started on the £3m redevelopment of a hospital.
The revamp of Malton Hospital will include a new ward, better facilities for outpatients, minor injury cases, day care surgery, dental services, out-of-hours services and rehabilitation.
The ward is due for completion next May and the full refurbishment should be finished by June 18, 2006.
Michael Witworth, chief executive of the Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale Primary Care Trust, said: "Once this work is done, the quality of the hospital environment will be so much better."
The work is being carried out by Malton-based building and conservation company Scothern.
Fourteen employees and a further 14 sub-contractors are working on the site.
