THE Zetland Hunt is well under way with their autumn hunting and calendar of events including rural rides from various locations throughout their hunting area.
Chris Gibbon from Forcett Valley recently organised one of these starting at his farm then working across country to the Foxberry Chasers cross-country course. Local landowners very kindly allowed the riders to go through their land opening up a route that normally would not be accessible.
Sara Metcalfe of Foxberry Chasers on her horse Vader met the ride at the schooling area of the course and led the ride over the jumps to the nearby stubble fields where her husband Philip had been busy preparing the hedges with a chainsaw and plenty of leylandii. These were imposing blackthorn and holly hedges and he felt the leylandii cover might help if any riders came amiss!
A handful of riders including joint-master Mike Allison and committee member David Atkins, braved the additional part of the course and all agreed that a team-chase over such fences would be a fun event for the future.
Chris then carried on over neighbouring farmer's field to return everyone safe and sound ready for the next one on Sunday from the Kennels at Aldbrough St John.
