NORTHALLERTON Police recorded a impressive victory in the Cup at the weekend, winning 9-0 on their travels to York Corinthians Vets.

They got off to a great start after just 31 seconds when Sam Vernalls hit a vicious 25 yard shot which left the York keeper with no chance.

The York keeper, Andy Simpson, clearly got his eye in after this blinding finish and saved two similar efforts from David Cooke and Sam Vernalls shortly after. He also pulled off a good save from an Ed Craven shot.

After 25 minutes though Police broke through again with Jonny Coombs and Simon Woolley combining well down the left, the ball found Craven who passed to Vernalls and he made no mistake from six yards out.

A minute later it was 3-0, a fine move between Curt Tasker, Sam Vernalls and David Cooke resulted in Tyrone Crow firing home from close range.

Shortly before half time Cooke made it 4-0 to the visitors from a Sam Vernalls cross and it was 5-0 just after half time when a cross from Chris Walker was turned into the net by a York defender.

Walker was involved again two minutes later as his cross found Ed Craven who shot home from 12 yards out.

Ten minutes after half time Vernalls found Cooke who made the scoreline 7-0. York nearly got one back a minute later, but the penalty was well saved from Andy Tate in the Police goal.

The goal of the game came on the hour mark as Vernalls' corner was met on the volley by Cooke who was 25 yards out.

Police wrapped up the scoring six minutes later as Tyrone Crow's right foot shot went in from 18 yards out.

Unison were also in action this weekend and had a home fixture against Great Ayton Hibs in the first division. Like Police, they too stormed into an early lead when James Pepper's corner was only half cleared and Cameron managed to stab the ball home.

After 17 minutes Tait took advantage of a bad back pass and tried to round the keeper, but he was brought down and Paul Storey scored the resulting spot kick for Hibs to level the score.

Hibs nearly took the lead soon after but Wilson's free kick from just outside the penalty area was well saved. Unison missed an opportunity as well when Hore headed just past the post from a corner.

Just before half time though Hibs did take the lead with Wilson firing home a 30 yard free kick. They increased their lead just after half time through Wilson again as he made a mazy run down the left and then shot past goalkeeper Moore.

Unison came close to pulling one back, but their shot was tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Clive Dowson.

Unison finally made it 2-3 with Lee Sharda scoring a penalty and they very quickly got back on level terms when substitute Mark raw;s curling corner went straight into the back of the net.

The home side grabbed the winner with 15 minutes remaining as midfielder Simon Doddsworth beat two men and found Lee Sharda who put the ball away from 18 yards out.

Skipton travelled to Catterick to play Le Maginot in division two. The match was never boring with both sides in control for short periods.

LeMaginot took an early two nill lead with Skipton levelling the score before half time. Gary Clarkson scored with a header, and Craig Evemy with a cool finish.

After half time Skipton continued to dominate with John Acton scoring from a corner with an unstoppable header. Skipton should have added further to their lead and they were to rue this as goals then came thick and fast at the other end.

Three goals for Le Maginot saw Skipton lose 5 to 3. LeMaginot's sorers included two from Lee Kirk, and goals from McGillycuddy, Frampton and Wilkinson.
