CHILDREN had their first chance to play at a park yesterday after a £121,000 refurbishment.
The Stockton park, formerly known as Riggy's Rec, was re-opened by Stockton South MP Dari Taylor and renamed as Parkfield and Mill Lane Community Park.
The Yarm Road recreation ground had been underused because of its marshy conditions.
However Parkfield and Mill Lane's neighbourhood management team secured funding from the government's Neighbourhood Management Pathfinder New Opportunities Fund.
Work included draining the land, landscaping, creating football pitches, a car park and a walking path around the grounds.
Mrs Taylor said: "This is an impressive facility and will help improve the quality of life for both young and old alike."
The opening included a mini football tournament with pupils from local primary schools, a beastie walk and family activities.
