A scheme to educate youngsters about the risks of arson has been set up by Cleveland Fire Brigade and crime prevention organisation Safe in Tees Valley (SITV).
Teenagers on the courses have been referred from the Youth Offending Service and Connexions to educate them about the dangers of starting fires and safety awareness.
Lawrence Craven, from Cleveland Fire Brigade, worked on the programme.
SITV helped to secure funding and co-ordinate programmes.
Mark Whelan, director of operations for Cleveland Fire Brigade said: "Safe in Tees Valley is an organisation that is well-known and highly-respected within the field of youth development.
"In forming this partnership the Brigade will be able to further develop its youth strategy which is aimed at reducing levels of anti-social behaviour and disorder-related offences by young people and will deliver a clear community fire safety message to those taking part in initiatives."
Ryehills student Terry Milburn, 15, was delighted to do the course. He said: "I made friends with some young people from other schools, developed some new skills and learned a great deal as well."
