AN £800,000 doctors' surgery is to be built in a Teesside community.
A land sale deal by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has been completed so the surgery can be built in Marske, near Redcar, by next summer.
Leven Investments expect to start work on the project in January to create a purpose-built surgery near Errington School.
It will allow the Zetland medical practice to move from a former shop in The Wynd to the new facility in Windy Hill Lane by the summer.
Councillor Valerie Halton, the council's cabinet member for health and social services, said: "I'm delighted we are being able to help facilitate an improved service for the people of Marske, which I am sure will be greatly appreciated."
Leven Investments managing director Gerry Stapleton said: "It will be an attractive building. The architectural solution is a good one and we'll be looking forward to completing the work by the end of July."
Dr Raj Saha, one of the three GPs at the practice, which also operates from a surgery in Windsor Road, Saltburn, said: "Our new surgery has been a long time coming.
"Our thanks go to the Langbaurgh Primary Care Trust and Leven Investments but most of all to our committed staff and loyal patients.
"The larger space will enable us to provide better healthcare for the community."
The new surgery will enable patients to be seen in more attractive and comfortable surroundings. In the meantime, the practice will continue to operate out of its existing premises.
