TWO town centre post offices could close because it is said that there is insufficient business.
Residents and councillors in Scarborough are organising petitions against the closure of the offices in Dean Road and Manor Road because they say there will be particular hardship to elderly people and those with young families. The closures are among several being discussed across the North.
Judith Donovan, the chairwoman of the Post Office Northern Region, said "The urban post office network has suffered from years of decline, and sub-postmasters are leaving. We recognise that in some areas, there are too many post offices competing for the same customers."
People have until Wednesday, November 3, to register objections to Postwatch by calling 0845 601 3265 or in writing to Post Office Closures, Freepost, Postwatch.
