TWO students are preparing to swap the warmth of home for a tent and sleeping bag in Iceland.
Katie Grinter, 19, of Forcett, near Richmond, and her friend Rachel Logan, 22, of Gainford, near Darlington, are planning to walk across the country to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Miss Grinter is studying events management at Leeds Metropolitan University and is currently on placement at the charity's Darlington office.
"This has made me aware of how having cancer can affect your lifestyle due to financial problems," she said.
"As well as raising money for Macmillan patient grants, we also want to make young people aware of these financial side effects and how their fundraising can help people living with cancer."
The pair hope to raise £5,000 for the charity on the trek next summer - and enjoy themselves in the process.
"It's something I have always wanted to do," said Miss Grinter.
"I'm looking forward to it - we'll just need to make sure we take lots of warm clothes."
The students are starting their fundraising push by holding a wine and cheese evening at Forcett Hall, near Richmond, on Friday.
Tickets cost £10 and can be reserved by calling Katie on (01325) 370870.
