CHANGES are planned to parking arrangements on a business site in a bid to make the area safer.

Experimental waiting restrictions will come into force on the Teesdale business park in Stockton on November 1 to reduce dangerous parking.

Stockton Borough Council has received complaints about drivers blocking the main access to the business park and car park entrances. Drivers will instead be encouraged to use car parks.

Long-stay car parks in Stockton are at the Riverside and Parliament Street.

A temporary car park has been negotiated with Jomast Development Ltd at an unused office block on Fudan Way, off University Boulevard, and details of parking permits have been circulated among office managers in Teesdale.

It is hoped land owned by English Partnerships can be adopted for permanent parking, although the land would need to be able to withstand heavy usage from traffic.

Councillor Bob Cook, the council's cabinet member for development and regeneration, said: "The council has an obligation to ensure the safety of drivers and unobstructed access in the borough, and these restrictions are essential to that end."
