Darlington manager David Hodgson believes American winger Adolfo Gregorio's future is in his own hands.
After earning a three-month deal in September following a successful trial spell during the summer, Gregorio was last night challenged by Hodgson to prove his worth and extend his stay in England.
The Californian has already made a favourable impression in the English game, making six starts for Quakers.
However, Hodgson has warned the 22-year-old he must perform on a regular basis if he is to secure a long-term deal at the Williamson Motors Stadium.
"I'm delighted with how quickly Adolfo has settled in with us," said Hodgson.
"He is under contract until December and we will address the situation nearer the time.
"In the meantime, it us up to Adolfo to show us that he can produce, week-in, week-out."
With Neil Wainwright struggling with a groin problem, Gregorio is expected to make his seventh start for the club when Quakers entertain Tony Adams' Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend.
The Chairboys - relegated from the old Second Division last season - have failed to win their last seven League games and have slipped to 12th in the table.
Subsequently, Arsenal legend Adams - who won 66 caps for England - has came under fire from Wanderers fans.
However, Adams this week received a vote of confidence from Wycombe chairman Ivor Beeks, who believes he has the right man to guide the club back to League One at the first attempt.
He said: "I'm absolutely convinced this guy will get us there. He works his nuts off for the club."
* Quakers reserves entertain York City's second string at the Williamson Motors Stadium today (2pm). Both sides have yet to record a victory in the Pontins Holiday League this season.
Defender David McGurk is likely to start after making seven appearances on loan with the Minstermen recently.
