Two women were left needing hospital treatment after they were involved in a hit-and-run incident in Hartlepool.
The incident happened at 8.10pm on Wednesday on the A689 Marina Way in the town, near the entrance to Jacksons Landing.
The women, who were part of a larger group, stepped onto the road at the pedestrian crossing from the central reservation heading towards the Historic Quay.
As they did so they were struck by a Vauxhall Cavalier. The car stopped momentarily before driving off, leaving the women lying in the road.
As a result of the collision, a 36-year-old suffered a fractured left knee and leg and multiple cuts and bruises. She has been detained in the University Hospital of Hartlepool.
Her 34-year-old friend suffered a fractured elbow and multiple cuts and bruises.
The car was later found in Hartlepool and a 27-year-old local woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and is helping police with their enquiries.
