GOVERNMENT enforcer Fraser Kemp has landed a key role in Labour's General Election campaign.
He has been made deputy to Darlington MP Alan Milburn, who will oversee Tony Blair's strategy for the expected General Election next year.
Mr Kemp, the MP for Houghton and Washington, will keep his job as a Labour whip, but will join the former Health Secretary in preparing the PM's drive for a third term in Government.
Mr Kemp was elected in 1997 and has been a Government whip for three years. Before entering the House of Commons, he spent 17 years as a Labour organiser in the Midlands and at the party's London headquarters.
He played a key role in drawing up Labour's election strategy in 1997. Mr Kemp said: "I am delighted. It's a great honour, privilege and opportunity.
