PEOPLE'S memories are to be preserved thanks to a service starting in a Thornaby library next week.
Sharing Stockton's Memories, which begins on Monday, is a service run by Stockton Library Service that will loan out local history, educational and reminiscence resources to schools, residential groups, sheltered housing and other groups in Stockton.
The service was created as a result of the Remembering the Past, Learning for the Future project that ran earlier in the year, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The collection, initially based on the Second World War with objects from the era and recordings of people's memories, will be based in Thornaby Central Library and can be ordered through the borough's libraries.
Teaching material will be available and photographs of the period have been placed on the Picture Stockton website at www.stockton.gov.uk
Hannah Laughton, the project co-ordinator, said: "It has been an exciting project.
"The children interviewed the older residents about their memories of the war with help given by members of the Remembering Thornaby Group. It is important we capture such remembrances for our future generations."
