A SHORTLIST of the best new buildings in the Yorkshire Dales has been drawn up.

Farm sheds, village halls, offices and houses were entered into the competition, held as part of the national park's 50th anniversary celebrations.

The authority's anniversary co-ordinator, Cathy Bennett, said: "It's a tense time for those on the shortlist, but hopefully we can announce the winners fairly soon."

Judges are paying a second visit to selected properties after whittling down 60 entries in the four categories to 11.

The buildings will be assessed against criteria including their aesthetic quality, their contribution to the character of the area and how well they function.

To qualify, they must have been built within the last five years and lie within the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

The shortlisted buildings are: Best new house(s) or extension - Lynchets, Conistone, and Listers Cottage, Malham. Best conversion - Peggleswright, Dent; Monks House, Kilnsey; Guys Villas, Long Preston; Feetham Holme, Grinton. Best new non-residential building - Bolton Abbey Estate Office, Grassington Town Hall and West Burton Village Hall. Best new farm building - Raisgill Farm, Buckden; Bushy Lodge Farm, Starbotton.
