WHEAT prices have remained just above £60 with the arrival of a few larger boats around the country. These exports are to Southern Mediterra-nean countries but, to export our surplus, we really need to be on the world stage, but are too expensive.
Barley prices have also firmed up as export licences have been issued, but with a subsidy. This shows that, even in the low £60s, we are above so-called world market levels. The licences were probably issued to keep barley out of intervention in Northern Europe.
Oilseed prices have improved a little on the back of stronger soya markets, but the EU still has a surplus of oilseed rape looking for a market.
