RIPON rider Graham Jarvis set the fastest time after Richmond Motor Club members worked wonders to ensure the famous Scott Trial took place last Saturday.

The start of the 70-mile event was delayed by half an hour as club officials and helpers carried out some valiant work to make certain that the course was rideable after the torrential rain which fell earlier.

The maximum entry of 200 riders left at 20-second intervals from the start at Feldom, above Richmond.

Jarvis finished in 5hr 15min 26.8sec on his MRS Sherco, although he was beaten by two marks on observation by Chesterfield rider Dan Thorpe on his JST Gas Gas.

Young Healaugh rider Katy Sunter produced a valiant effort to complete the course on her 250cc TST Gas Gas, receiving the MHT Copley Trophy for best lady rider.

The only other female competitor, Becky Cook from Newport, retired at the third petrol check on her VVM Gas Gas.

Another young local rider, 17-year-old Martin Bainbridge from Marrick, also put in a great ride to take a finisher's certificate on a day which did no favours to anyone.

But perhaps the greatest determination was shown by Danny Haslam from Aversham, who took the R Woodward Wilson Memorial Trophy for last official finisher in 7hr 45min 13sec.
