COUPLES having registry office weddings in Stockton could be forgiven for thinking they are tying the knot in the Loire Valley.
The town's registry office has been given a French Chateau-style makeover.
A council spokesperson said it was to provide " a calm and sophisticated setting for a variety of ceremonies."
The marriage room has been refurbished, a wheelchair access reception area created and a garden with ornamental archway, seat, and hanging baskets provided at the Balaclava Street base.
Councillor Jennie Beaumont will perform the opening ceremony at the revamped registry office on Wednesday.
