A FASHION and homeware retailers opened an 18,000 sq ft store in Durham this week, creating 70 jobs.
Matalan, which is committed to investing in the North-East, now has 12 stores in the region.
Peter Ryan, store manager at the new Matalan, in Dragonville Lane, Durham, said: "It's an exciting time for myself and the other staff. I hope this rubs off on our customers too.
"With Christmas just round the corner as well, we're going to have plenty to keep us busy for the next few months."
The store, which opened on Thursday, will provide clothing for women, men and children including fancy dress and accessories for Halloween.
The store will stock Matalan's range of award-winning homewares, from kitchen and dining accessories to essential products for the bathroom and bedroom.
Meanwhile, Matalan has announced its commitment to support the Great North Air Ambulance by adopting it as its chosen charity.
The store will raise money through a series of fundraising activities over the coming year.
