A BUILDER from Darlington launched his autobiography at the weekend, much of it based on his experiences boarding up windows in the region after dark.
Bill Stenson, a Conservative councillor in the town for almost 40 years, was regularly called out when windows were broken and owners needed their properties securing.
His book, Night Owl, is a humorous insight into his encounters, such as the time he accidentally boarded a fireman into a house after he was left behind by his colleagues.
Coun Stenson said: "People will get quite a lot of humour from the stories in the book. It is about times gone by and what life was like in the past. People will recognise places that are still there today.
"Writing the book has been a labour of love and I have enjoyed doing it. I couldn't have done it without the help of my secretary, Pauline Raine, because she has deciphered my notes."
Profits from the book will go towards Cancer Research UK and the Alzheimer's Society. Coun Stenson said: "We all know someone who has been affected by these diseases."
Night Owl was launched in Ottakar's bookshop in the Cornmill Centre, on Saturday. It can be purchased at the shop or by calling Coun Stenson on (01325) 468249.
