A FORMER school will again echo with the sound of children as it has been converted into a nursery.
Nursery nurse Kirsty Walker has turned the old school and schoolhouse in Hipswell, near Richmond, into a kindergarten for children aged between six weeks and five years.
The Hipswell resident said she searched far and wide for a suitable spot for the business, until realising that what she was looking for was on her doorstep.
The buildings were ideally situated and the redevelopment means the architecture of the two 19th Century buildings could be restored to their former glory.
Neville Baldry, partner at chartered accountants Clive Owen and Co, which helped the nursery nurse to start the business, said: "While it has taken twelve months to renovate the premises, the transformation is proof that it has been well worth the wait.
"Kirsty has done a magnificent job in restoring the character of the old school and school house, while creating a modern and stimulating environment for the children to enjoy."
It is hoped the kindergarten will create up to 18 part and full-time jobs.
