A MAN fell to his death from castle battlements in an apparent suicide bid.
Two tourists discovered the body at the base of the 100ft high keep at Richmond Castle, in North Yorkshire, at about 3.15pm on Monday.
The name of the middle-aged man, who lived in the north of the county, has not been released.
A post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday, but police say there are no suspicious circumstances.
The 11th century castle is managed by English Heritage.
Spokeswoman Rebecca Milton said: "This is a very tragic incident. Our feelings are with the dead man's family and friends.
"We will undertake our own inquiry once the police have finished their investigations."
A inquest into the death is expected to open today.
