An initiative to reduce anti-social behaviour in a town during Halloween has been hailed a success by council and police chiefs.
The initiative, known as the Boro Buzz, saw 100 events organised in Middlesbrough, ranging from football tournaments and DJ workshops, to judo and Halloween walks.
Councillor Barry Coppinger, Middlesbrough Council cabinet member for public protection, said: "Young people are Middlesbrough's future and the vast majority have responded positively to the wide range of activities the agencies in Middlesbrough have organised.
"We also hope measures like these will divert the minority away from anti-social behaviour. We had over 1,000 inquiries in run-up to the event."
Inspector Charlie Bell, of Cleveland Police, said the scheme aimed to encourage young people to get involved in organised events while dealing with those who misbehaved.
He said: "The police and council have been working closely together to deal with those who are responsible for anti-social behaviour as well as support those youngsters who behave in a sensible and mature way.
"The Boro Buzz is an example of this partnership working and has been a great success in providing an outlet for youthful energy as well as helping to reduce anti-social behaviour in Middlesbrough during a busy time of the year."
