STUDENTS have been collecting a host of goodies to help relieve the plight of youngsters living in Romania.
Dozens of shoe boxes have been collected and packed with food, toys, clothes and little luxuries destined for orphanages in the ravaged country.
Northallerton College has teamed up with the town's New Life Baptist Church to collect the much-needed aid.
Student Lizzie Woods, 17, of Thornton-le-Moor, said: "We decided to act after seeing video footage of the country. There really isn't anything there for people - they are really, really poor.
"The church started by supporting one family out there and it has really grown. I think we have about 200 boxes to send out along with food and blankets."
College tutor Belinda Roy said: "It was great to get so many students involved. My tutor group is great - I don't think any of them aren't involved in something.
"Taking part in something like this also raises their awareness of what is happening in other countries."
