HUNDREDS of BMX cyclists descended on the North-East in aid of a fundraising event.
A mixture of competitors and spectators gathered at Hangar 2 in Thornaby, near Stockton, for eight hours of action.
The ramps at the centre, formerly known as APE Skatepark, hosted competitions and displays on Saturday with raffles and prizes donated by local businesses.
Beginners, amateurs and professional BMXers all turned up to help raise money for the special needs baby unit at the University Hospital of North Tees, Stockton.
The rest of the money will be used for the running costs of the centre, which was rescued by Thornaby businessman David Scott earlier this year.
The APE Skatepark was under threat last April after its former owner was forced to close the business due to high insurance costs.
As landlord of the building, Mr Scott agreed to forego any rent if enough volunteers came forward to run the boarded-up centre.
The skatepark opens between 4pm and 10pm weekdays, and noon to 10pm on a weekend. More information about volunteering at the centre is available by contacting (01642) 750592.
