THE sky above a North-East town was awash with colour as tens of thousands of people attended a fireworks display.
The event at Darlington's South Park drew huge crowds from across the region.
The event opened at 6pm, with fairground rides and a music roadshow by 96.6 TFM and Magic 1170 presenters from a converted double-decker bus to entertain the crowds.
A 12ft Guy Fawkes, created by pupils from the town's Gurney Pease Primary School, was placed on top of a huge bonfire that was lit at 7pm.
For the second successive year, External Combustion was commissioned by Darlington Borough Council to provide the fireworks display.
Acting Inspector Alison Jackson, of Darlington Police, said the event ran smoothly with no problems.
