ENTERPRISING students are hatching plans for a successful business - supplying free range eggs.
More than 60 students at East Durham and Houghall Community College have taken charge of 48 pullet hens and are laying plans for a venture selling eggs to the local community.
Students on the Land-Based Foundation course have designed and built a hen house, and have been involved in everything from choosing which colour to paint the house to collecting the eggs.
The college says the venture will help students with skills as diverse as money-handling, poultry care, health and hygiene and basic accounts.
Principal Ian Prescott said: "I'm thrilled this venture has taken off.
"The students take a lot of pride in the care and upkeep of the pullets and I'm sure the business will be a resounding success."
