A SCHEME aiming to improve the health of residents through neighbourhood walks has published its final schedule.
The Winter Warming Walks scheme, run in Derwentside by environmental group Groundwork West Durham, encourages people to take up walking as a way to become fitter and healthier.
Steve McDonald, project officer, said: "This year we want both individuals and groups to get out, become active and involved in the scheme.
"The walks are no longer than three miles and are suitable for all ages and abilities."
Leaflets detailing forthcoming walk dates and venues will be available in doctors surgeries, libraries, leisure centres and community centres or from the Groundwork office at Craghead Village Hall, near Stanley.
The project is part of the Walking the Way to Health Initiative led by the Countryside Agency and the British Heart Foundation.
In north Durham, it benefits from extra funding from the New Opportunities Fund and sponsorship from Kia Cars.
Paul Carter of Kia said: "We believe that, while cars are an essential part of our culture, we must all be responsible in how we use them."
