AN information service to help people with a disability and older people and carers has been launched on Teesside.
The Tees Equipment Information Point is part of the Tees Community Equipment Service. The information point gives details of the range of equipment available for people from social services, the district nurse or high street shops.
The equipment includes wheelchairs, walking frames and cutlery for people who have difficulty in holding standard knives and forks.
The service takes the form of a telephone line and a website and is being funded by the Hartlepool, Redcar and Cleveland, Middlesbrough and Stockton councils and the Primary Care Trusts for those areas.
Tracie Leonard, project manager, said: "It's amazing the range of equipment which is available to help older people or people with a disability.
"The new information service aims to give people a single, easy point of contact to find out more about the equipment available, including where they can have a look at it, buy it or have it repaired."
The telephone number for the service is 0845 045 0325 and the website is www.hartlepoolnow.co.uk/ices
It will run for an initial six months, after which it will be reviewed.
