THE National Railway Museum in York has received an award for its contribution to railway preservation.
The Heritage Railway Association has presented the museum with the Peter Manisty Award.
The award was given for a number of achievements including the construction and opening of Locomotion: The National Railway Museum, at Shildon, the organisation of Railfest, the railway bicentenary celebrations at York, the purchase of The Flying Scotsman, and the successful operation of record-breaking train The City of Truro.
Andrew Scott, head of the museum, said: "The unplanned necessity of our fundraising campaign to purchase the Flying Scotsman and its subsequent programme of operations have turned 2004 into the most momentous in the museum's history."
