VILLAGERS have produced a blueprint to improve their community life.
The Appleton-le-Moors Parish Plan has taken two years to complete, aided by Margaret Farey, from the Yorkshire Rural Community Council, and a committee led by Janet Haytn.
"We got everyone involved in creating the plan and it proved a marvellous way of encouraging new residents to take part in village life," said Ms Haytn, a resident for three years.
Under the plan, the Reading Room has been restored and has become a focal point for community activities, the village pond and cattle pound are to be restored and plans are under way to set up gardening and dancing clubs.
Appleton, which has 174 residents, has no shop or post office, but attracts a large number of tourists because it is at the gateway to the North York Moors National Park.
Ideas for improving the village include bulk-buying of coal and logs to cut costs, extra bus services, encouraging visits by mobile traders, and information technology training.
