SCHOOL pupils have experienced life in a military band.

Six students from Richmond School spend a day last week with the Normandy Band of the Queen's Division at Catterick Garrison.

The young musicians rehearsed and then marched with the band.

"We told them it's a hobby that we get paid for," said spokesman Cpl Jonathan O'Neill.

"The pupils got a chance to see what life was like in a band and we talked about the different engagements where we perform."

Ali Finnigan, head of music at Richmond School, said her pupils had enjoyed the day.

"They've found out that there are different aspects to a military band, not just marching."

The Normandy Band performs concerts all over the country.
