BUSINESSES in the region will be urged to consider employing more blind and partially sighted people at a conference in the region tomorrow.
Stockton South MP Dari Taylor has invited Action for Blind People and the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) to meet local employers to discuss the issue.
Mrs Taylor said: "I want blind and visually impaired people to be judged on the talents and intellect they have to offer, not on their disability, and British working life would be significantly enhanced if we were able to increase the number of blind and visually impaired people in employment.
"However, it is important for local employers to feel confident to employ these people, and for them to know that they will receive support in doing so.
"I see this as the first step in building a relationship, in encouraging employers to trust that employing blind and visually impaired people is possible. Action for Blind People and the RNIB will be very clearly outlining what support is available."
The event will take place between 9.30am and 3pm at the Swallow Hotel, Stockton.
